What’s Up?

I will be using this page to share news about what I’m currently working on as well as upcoming events.

Before the Covid-19 crisis hit I was planning a number of different projects for 2020. While most of those have been postponed, I have managed to keep busy online and have a few projects in the works.

Grandma’s Bubble Trouble – Friday, July 17 – 7 p.m.

Using a number of my well known dinner theatre characters I’ve written and am directing a new online show which will stream on Live Bait Theatre’s Facebook page. The show is being presented as part of Live Bait’s New Works Festival. While we won’t have dinner or a live audience we will have some wacky characters, bad jokes and lots of music. The show sees Grandma inviting some friends and family to be part of an online fundraiser for Live Bait. She also uses the evening to decide which of her kids gets to be in her bubble. It will be posted and remain available to view later as well.

Area 33 by Natalie Meisner – Saturday, July 18, 2 p.m.

I am excited to be taking part in a reading of Area 33, a new play by the wonderful playwright, Natalie Meisner. The reading is being directed by Pam Halstead and features Bernadine Stapleton and Hannah Lucas. It’s great to be acting again with such a wonderful team. The play is presented as part of Live Bait Theatre’s New Works Festival and will stream on their Facebook Page.

Life Happens – Saturday, July 18 – 7 p.m.

Over twenty years ago I wrote a short play called Life Happens which has never been produced. Live Bait Theatre will give the script its premiere as part of their Social Distancing Short Play Festival. The play will be shared on Live Bait Theatre’s Facebook Page, along with three other short plays. It will be posted and remain available to view later as well.

The Charlie and Heather Show! – Every Sunday 8 p.m. Atlantic Time

Every Sunday at 8 p.m. Atlantic time Heather MacIntyre sings and I tell stories for an hour or so.  You can find out more about the show by clicking the link above.

Following are my projects for 2020 that had been made public before the shutdown. Hopefully they will happen at some point, but as of right now everything is on hold. Please note these descriptions were written before the world changed…

Ontario Book Tour June 6-13, 2020 (Postponed indefinitely)

I will tour Ontario in support of my book, Stompin’ Tom Connors: The Myth and the Man, in June. I plan to visit a number of locales which have a strong connection to Stompin’ Tom. In each of those locations I will read from my book and have a performer who will present a few of Tom’s songs and/or someone who knew Tom so we can have a chat about Tom’s life and career. I’ll be posting more details soon.

I’m Not What I Seem: Songs and Stories of Rita MacNeil – July – September, 2020 (Postponed Indefinitely)

Last fall I produced a musical tribute to Rita MacNeil, featuring Theresa Malenfant, Jennie Del Motte, Heather MacIntyre and Carley Varner-Joudrey. The production went so well that we are planning on presenting it again this summer and early fall.

Christmas Dinner Theatre – November – December, 2020 (Postponed indefinitely)

I am working with Live Bait Theatre again this year to present a holiday dinner theatre. I have already started taking bookings and will announce the show soon!
