Under (re)Construction – previous site lost
Welcome to my website! I’m very excited to have a place where I can share a bit about my life and career.
I’ve been working in the arts for over thirty years. Like most of us in this business I do a lot of different things. I’m an actor, writer, director and administrator.
Ultimately, though, I’d like to think I’m a story teller. Stories connect us. They remind us that we are not alone and that others have experienced some of the same challenges and joys that we have. So, whether I’m acting, writing, directing or producing, my goal is always to share a good story.
I have spent most of my career in the Maritimes on Canada’s east coast. I am committed to telling stories from this region and celebrating our artists. I wrote a play and a book about Rita MacNeil, as well as a book about Stompin’ Tom Connors; I’ve done stage adaptations of novels by Maritime writers, Bruce Graham and Charles G. D. Roberts; I’ve written plays about famous east coast stories like The Great Amherst Mystery and the real life murder of William Fawcett; my most produced play, The Maritime Way of Life, is a celebration of the east coast, satirizing every Maritime stereotype one can imagine; I’ve run two theatre companies, Live Bait and Eastern Front, that both focus on Atlantic Canadian artists and stories; and I am very involved with the Anne Murray Centre. I hope that by exploring these pages you’ll learn a little bit more about me and Canada’s East Coast.
This website gives me a chance to share some of what I’ve done so far in my career, and to let you know what’s next. I will be sharing information about new projects and upcoming events on my What’s Up? page. I hope to use my blog page to post random thoughts and essays.
There are descriptions of all of my produced plays here, and in many cases you can read a bit of the script. You can even order signed copies of my books from this site. On each page you’ll see certain words in bold. In most cases if you click on those I’ve provided links to more information. So please feel free to explore! I hope I can connect with you through these pages. You can leave comments on the Blog page and please feel free to follow and/or message me through my Facebook page. Thanks for visiting!

For a more detailed biography you can check out my Wikipedia page here. In terms of biography this website is pretty much just about my career. In my personal life I have four amazing kids who aren’t crazy about me sharing their lives on social media. But they are pretty much the best kids in the world. I know everyone says that, but mine really are. lol Okay, maybe I’m biased, but they really are my greatest accomplishment. 🙂
I want to give a big shout out to my good friend, Dave McClelland, for taking care of the tech side of this site. You can find out more about Dave here. And if you need a website he’s a great resource!
Oh, yeah, one more thing…this site is very new so there may well be some typos or other mistakes. If you notice anything please feel free to drop me a line at charlierhindress@hotmail.com to let me know. Thanks!
