Writer

I was featurined in the L.A. Animal 2017 calendar. it’s the only picture I have of myself looking like a writer. 🙂

It was not my intention to be a writer. Until I started writing my first play, Guilty! The Story of the Great Amherst Mystery, in 1989 I was only interested in being an actor. That summer we had a woman working at Live Bait Theatre who was a white witch. One of her many talents was reading palms. She read mine and said I should finish the play and that I would have much more success as a writer than as an actor. I was heartbroken at the time. I still had dreams of being a world famous actor. But she turned out to be right and I’ve come to embrace it. I can’t imagine not writing now.

Shortly  after Guilty! premiered in 1991 I started getting ideas for a second play. And then another and another. One of those plays, Flying On Her Own, the story of Rita MacNeil’s life led to me writing a biography of Rita. It was my first book and it was published the year I turned 50. I’m now planning my third.

My writing career has happened mostly by accident, but I’m incredibly grateful that my life took that turn. If you want to know more about my writing please click on a category below!
